Summary Maintain a full teaching load within the Welding program. Provide insight on further refinement of the college's American Welding Society (AWS) Certification Testing program. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: 1. Providing instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines and class schedules 2. Creating and maintaining an environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking 3. Evaluating progress of students concerning educational matters and grades student work 4. Meeting with students outside of class 5. Maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics 6. Maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter areas 7. Fulfilling professional responsibilities of a faculty member 8. Maintaining accurate academic records 9. Performing other related duties as assigned. Salary and Benefits Starting salary annual salary $49,781.25 to $80,814.66 for 177 days of service, plus family medical, dental, and vision coverage and employee life insurance (employee contribution depends upon plan selected.) STRS Retirement (employee contributes 9.20%). Special skills/Education/Experience specific to this position Knowledge, experience and certifications such as in the FCAW , SMAW , GMAW , GTAW welding processes. AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI ) and instruction experience in welding. Knowledge and experience with AWS codes and standards, directing welder qualification tests, welding inspection, Microsoft Office and email Example of Duties * Recruit students for the Welding program from high schools, adult education programs, and business & industry. * Represent the college by participating in community and national organizations, educational workshops and internships that enhance the welding industry. * Classroom duties: Provide instruction that may include lecture and laboratory classes in the discipline in accordance with established San Bernardino Valley College's approved curriculum and course outlines; inform students about course requirements, evaluation procedures, attendance and participation requirements in a course syllabus; effectively teach and communicate with students of diverse backgrounds. * Interaction with students outside of class: Advise students on academic and career matters; assist in outreach and articulation with high schools, ROPs, four-year colleges and universities; post and maintain adequate and regular office hours in accordance with prevailing policy. * Out-of-class duties: Maintain necessary attendance, scholastic and student records, and submit them according to published guidelines; prepare and grade class assignments and evaluations according to course syllabus. * Professional and curriculum development: Remain current in field; develop, maintain and evaluate curriculum including development and assessment of student learning outcomes; select textbooks; evaluate course materials; interact with faculty and staff in other areas of instruction and participate in the development of instructional methods, technology, and materials; work with peers in higher education, and where appropriate, business and industry to maintain currency of instructional programs. * Interaction with colleagues: Participate in college governance by serving on college committees; participate in professional development, including flex obligations; assist with student and other educational activities in accordance with college policies; establish and maintain effective work relationships. Desired Qualifications * Possession of advanced skills in pipe welding and pipe layout fabrication. * Proven experience teaching welding technology and/or metal fabrication. * Proven understanding of how to effectively train students to meet industry recognized skills to achieve welding qualification/certification requirements. * Advanced skills in oxy-fuel welding, shielded metal arc welding, flux-cored arc welding, gas metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, resistance spot welding, laser, and robotic welding. * Proficiency in oxy-fuel cutting, manual & CNC plasma arc cutting and air carbon arc cutting. * Competency in Computer Aided Drafting and/or Solid Works software. * Possession of a current AWS Certified Welding Inspector License or ability to obtain Inspector licensure. * Possession of a current AWS Certified Welding Educator License. * Experience developing Welding Procedure Specifications and Procedure Qualification Records. * Excellence in teaching (enthusiasm, knowledge of subject matter, student motivational skills, diverse teaching methods to address a variety of learning styles). * Commitment to community college education as demonstrated in personal and/or professional experience. * Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, other on-campus groups, off-campus community groups and educational and industry partners. * Evidence of a strong commitment to remaining current in the discipline. * Evidence of a strong academic preparation as evidenced by undergraduate and graduate level coursework. * Ability to communicate clearly with students and staff, both orally and in writing. * Interest in and/or ability to use relevant and modern technology in the classroom, including videoconferencing and on-line instruction. Bachelor's degree AND two (2) years of experience in the field of welding technology OR an associate's degree and six (6) years of experience in the field of welding technology. Experience that indicates a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical and learning disabilities.
