Description: The Welding Engineer-Metallics Metals Engineer is responsible for supporting Chrysler Light weighting initiatives by developing methods for joining new grades of higher strength steels. Develop and understand the impact of multiple welding processes on lightweight materials like sheet aluminum, magnesium and stainless steels. Develop and maintain Chrysler welding standards. Develop common standards between the Chrysler and Fiat groups. Investigate and develop new joining methods for new grades of steel as well as dissimilar materials. Support the material approval process for new products as it pertains to welding. Provide welding technical direction and consultation to Engineering, Purchasing, Manufacturing and Corporate Suppliers. Provide assistance to evaluate and investigate deficiencies of prototype and production parts, and assist in the initiation of corrective action. Research conducted both internal and external through technical consortia activities.

Requirements:

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Welding Engineering or Metallurgical Engineering from an ABET accredited university. Other engineering degrees may be considered based on welding experience

Minimum 3 years of experience in welding industry

In depth welding process and welding metallurgy expertise

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced degree preferred in Welding Engineering

Practical manufacturing welding engineering support

Experience and technical expertise in gas metal arc welding, soldering and brazing processes

Excellent communication, organizational and presentation skills

Ability to meet deadlines and have a "whatever it takes" attitude to completing assignments

Must be able to be self-directed and motivated to achieve department goals
