Welding Engineer

Babcock & Wilcox , Mt. Vernon, Indiana

The day to day duties include, but are not limited to, one or more of the following areas:

·                 Qualification and documentation of welders and welding procedures.

·                 Training of welding operators.

·                 Supervision of welders, and welding operators on critical weld operations.

·                 Maintenance of welder's qualifications.

·                 Preparation, review, approval and release of written welding procedures in accordance with demanding specifications.

·                 Preparation of welding plans (i.e. bead placement sketches, setup sheets, process routings)

·                 Identification of welding equipment or fixture needs.

·                 Preparation of welding equipment procurement specifications.

·                 Layout and arrangement of welding equipment.

·                Trouble shooting of welding operations.

·                 Implementation of new welding equipment.

·                 Review of process routings involving welding.

·                 The shop welding operations are relatively long in duration and require detailed planning months prior to execution

Required knowledge of various welding processes including, AGTAW, MGTAW, SAW, SMAW, SAFCAW and PAW. 
Required knowledge of welding materials includes carbon steel, high strength low alloy and high nickel alloys. 

Knowledge of the following is strongly preferred:

Heavy pressure vessel fabrication

Process planning and welding specifications driven by custom computer software

Fabrication in accordance to code (i.e. ASME, AWS, etc.)

CAD for planning purposes and shop sketches

AMI or other orbital welding with AGTAW

AGMAW robotic cladding using either the teach or offline programming methods

Designing or assembling welding equipment
