WELDING ASSISTANT PROFESSOR
Los Medanos College - Pittsburg, California

JOB OPPORTUNITY ANNOUNCEMENT
Los Medanos College located in Pittsburg, California is accepting applications for a full-time, tenure track Welding Assistant Professor.

This assignment will include teaching both day and evening Welding classes. Summer teaching opportunities are available for additional compensation in addition to the standard fall and spring semester teaching assignments. The Welding courses include Arc Welding, Shielded Arc Welding, Oxyacetylene Welding, Pipe Welding, Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding(GMAW), Flux-cored Arc Welding (FCAW), Pipe Welding, and Blue Print Reading.

The position will require the ability to teach lecture and hands-on lab courses and the ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Teach Welding courses in lecture and hands-on lab environments in accordance with established course outlines.
2. Prepare and grade course assignments, projects and examinations.
3. Advise students on course requirements, evaluation procedures, attendance
requirements and academic progress.
4. Maintain necessary attendance and scholastic records and submit them according to
published deadlines.
5. Post and maintain regular office hours in accordance with the college/district policy.
6. Develop and revise course outlines and teaching materials as necessary to maintain
state-of-the-art teaching and learning.
7. Participate in department, college, and district meetings.
8. Promote student learning in the program.
9. Work collegially with the dean, faculty and staff in the program and the college.
10. Represent the Welding program in college committees.
11. Provide guidance and support to adjunct faculty.
12. In cooperation with the LMC counselors, establish academic and educational plans with Welding students based upon a clear progression of Welding courses leading to a Certificate of Achievement or an Associate of Science degree.
13. Communicate information about job opportunities to the Welding students from the industry partners.
14. Work closely with industry partners and convene program advisory board meetings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - The applicant must possess one of the following qualifications (earned degrees must be from an accredited college/university):
1. An Associate of Arts/Science Degree and 6 years of experience in Welding. OR
2. A BA/BS or MA/MS and 2 years of experience in Welding. OR
3. Equivalency to one of the above. (If you are applying for an equivalency evaluation,
please complete the Equivalency Form contained in the application packet.)

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
1. A Master’s Degree.
2. Welding certificates from the American Welding Society or the Contractor State License
Board of California.
3. Experience teaching Welding in a post-secondary education environment.
4. Experience evaluating and developing Welding curriculum in a post secondary education
environment
.
5. Experience in using educational technology for teaching.
